This book is in excellent condition. DJ does not seem to contain a pre-printed price. DJ has some edge rubbing/tearing, & very light scuffing. Interior pages are excellent with no markings but I did find a few pages with lightly wrinkled corners. This is really a very nice well-kept book! Details: Chloe Newcomb is a Victim Witness, a volunteer social worker in an Arizona desert town who helps soften the bad news after an accident or crime. Called to a suicide scene, she recognizes the dead man as a figure from her East Coast activist past, a former lover she hasn't heard from in 20 years. In her first novel, Thornton manages to make Chloe both original and recognizable, the kind of person you'd expect to find liking country music (her title comes from a George Strait song), enjoying diner food and flirting with good-looking cowboys. And her descriptions of the desert under various conditions of time and weather make you understand why people choose to live there. From Publishers Weekly: For Chloe Newcomb, introduced in this first novel, coming of age and middle age seem to be hitting at about the same time. A former member of the 1960s counterculture, Chloe has just quit her job as a financial investigator in New York City for an unlikely third life in scruffy, no-nonsense, serenely beautiful Bisbee, Ariz. Putting a short-lived marriage firmly behind her and mourning for her brother, who died of AIDS, Chloe is doing her best to look ahead, but her earlier lives keep intruding. Orders normally ship in 1-2 business days depending on what time payment is completed.
